About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site sheltering nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas — approximately 459 individuals. Trekking through dense, misty rainforest to sit with a gorilla family is widely regarded as one of the most profound wildlife encounters on Earth. The park’s ancient forest also hosts 120 mammal species, 348 bird species, and 220 butterfly species.
Location
Southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Albertine Rift, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nearest town is Buhoma.
Best Time to Visit
June–September and December–February (dry seasons). Gorilla trekking is available year-round but trails are easier when dry.
How to Reach
Fly to Entebbe, then domestic flight to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip (1 hour), followed by a 1–2 hour drive. Overland from Kampala takes 8–10 hours.
