Safari Experiences & Activities in East Africa

A Note From Us

What a safari with us actually feels like

Most people write to us with the same sentence: “We’ve always wanted to do this — we just don’t know where to start.” So we start with a conversation, not a price list. Where you want to be at sunrise, how much moving around you can bear, whether you want a crowd or an empty horizon.

From that we build the trip: camps we have slept in ourselves, a private vehicle and guide, light aircraft on the long legs, and enough unscheduled hours that Africa gets a chance to surprise you. Below are the experiences we weave in most often — choose the ones that speak to you and we will shape a journey around them.

Where You Sleep

Africa's best safari lodges and tented camps.

Every night of your journey is spent at a property we have visited and quietly graded on a hundred small things — from the elevated tented suites of Elewana Serengeti Explorer to Melia collection, Siringiti, Wilderness Collection, Twc, Wellwolth&BeyondAsilia and Nomad.

Hand-stitched linen, copper baths under canvas, menus built from what grows nearby, and service so unforced that by the third evening the staff already know how you take your coffee.

How We Move You

Fly-in safaris, so the road never steals your holiday.

East Africa is vast. Driving from the Serengeti to the coast can swallow an entire day. On a fly-in safari you cover the same distance in forty minutes of light aircraft, with the migration unrolling under the wing.

You land dust-free at a bush airstrip, drop your bags at the new camp, and are out on a game drive the same afternoon. Nothing wasted — that is the whole point.

Your Own Rhythm

A typical safari day: dawn drive, long lunch, sundowners

Out at first light when the predators are still working, back for brunch and a swim, a slow afternoon through the heat, then out again into the honeyed last two hours with a sundowner set up wherever your guide finds the best tree.

Some afternoons our guests never leave camp at all — they read on the deck and watch elephants at the waterhole below. That is one of the real luxuries of a safari, and we build the time in on purpose.

Things You Can Do

Safari Experiences in East African.

A safari can be about wildlife, adventure, culture, photography or simply having time to enjoy Africa at your own pace. We combine these experiences into private journeys designed around what you want to see and do.

01 - Experience

Night Game Drive

See a different side of the African bush after dark. With an experienced guide, you may spot nocturnal wildlife such as leopards, civets, bush babies and other animals rarely seen during the day. Night drives are available in selected areas where they are permitted.

02 - Experience

Hot Air Balloon Safari

Just before sunrise the burners fall quiet, and the whole Serengeti stretches beneath your feet in perfect silence. Herds of wildebeest look like a slow river. We book you with the most experienced pilots on the plains, and finish the morning the proper way — a full champagne bush breakfast, table laid out on the grass just for you.

03 - Experience

Walking Safari

A vehicle is a wonderful thing, but nothing beats the feeling of your own boots on African soil. Alongside an armed ranger and a Maasai tracker who has read this land since he was a boy, you walk. You learn the tracks, the dung, the small birds that warn of a lion nearby. Slow, thrilling, deeply human.

04 - Experience

Cultural Tour

Africa is not only wildlife. It is people — coffee farms in Karatu, women singing at the well, elders who remember when the Serengeti had no roads at all. We arrange gentle, respectful visits, never the staged kind. You sit, you eat what they eat, you laugh at the same jokes. This is often the day guests remember most.

05 - Experience

Visit a Local Tribe

The Maasai in Ngorongoro, the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers around Lake Eyasi, the Datoga blacksmiths — these communities have opened their homes to us for years, and we return the trust by keeping visits small, quiet and honest. You will spend a real morning with them, not a performance.

06 - Experience

Photography Safari

For guests who travel with a serious lens, we pace the whole trip differently — beanbag-fitted vehicles, open sides, departures before first light. Our specialist photo guides know where the cheetah cubs den, which crossing point the wildebeest are favouring this week, and how to position the car so the sun sits behind your shoulder.
07 - Experience

Beach Holiday

After the dust and the early mornings, the bush gives way to the Indian Ocean. Warm turquoise water, powder-white sand, no schedule at all. We finish most journeys with a few nights in Zanzibar or on Mafia Island — a barefoot villa, a private dhow at sunset, a lobster grilled on the sand.

08 - Experience

Scuba Diving in Zanzibar

The reefs off Mnemba Atoll and Pemba are among the most alive in the Indian Ocean — dolphins, turtles, moray eels, walls of coral dropping into deep blue. Whether you’re a certified diver or would like to complete your open-water course with us, we work only with PADI-accredited dive centres we trust with our own families.
08 - Experience

Climb the Mountains

Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, the Rwenzoris. If a summit is on your list, we’ll get you there — slowly, safely, on the routes with the best acclimatisation profile. Private guides, private cooks, warm sleeping tents, a porter for every bag. You climb light. You reach the top. You remember it for the rest of your life.
Ready when you are

"The truest luxury we know is time — time to slow down, to listen, and to meet Africa on her own honest terms."

When you’re ready to see the shape of a full journey, our hand-crafted itineraries live over on the Safari & Tours page — grouped by mood so you can start with a feeling first.
