About Ugalla National Park
Ugalla River National Park offers an authentic wilderness experience for travelers seeking solitude and adventure. Located in western Tanzania, this remote park is defined by vast miombo woodlands, seasonal floodplains, and the winding Ugalla River, creating a rich habitat for diverse wildlife.
With very few visitors each year, Ugalla remains one of Tanzania’s best-kept safari secrets. The park is home to roan antelope, sable antelope, African wild dogs, elephants, buffaloes, and a variety of birdlife, while also protecting an important wildlife corridor that connects key ecosystems across western Tanzania.
Location
Western Tanzania, south of Tabora. The Ugalla River flows through the heart of the park.
Best Time to Visit
July–October (dry season) when tracks are passable and wildlife concentrates near water.
How to Reach
Ugalla River National Park is accessible by charter flight from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, or Kigoma to nearby airstrips, followed by a short road transfer. It can also be reached by road as part of an extended western Tanzania safari.
