About Rubondo National Park
A lush island sanctuary in the southwestern corner of Lake Victoria, home to introduced chimpanzees, sitatunga antelope, and spot-necked otters. The island’s dense tropical forest and papyrus wetlands harbor over 300 bird species including the African fish eagle. It’s one of Tanzania’s most unique parks — blending forest walks, fishing, and water-based activities.

In Lake Victoria, off the western coast of Tanzania near Geita, Bukoba and Mwanza.
Best Time to Visit
June–October (dry season) for best forest walks. Birding is excellent November–April during the wet season.
How to Reach
Scheduled and charter flights operate from Arusha, Serengeti, and other major safari destinations to Rubondo Airstrip. The island can also be reached by boat from the mainland, depending on your itinerary.
