What makes this journey unforgettable

Your journey, day by day

1

Arrive in Entebbe

Your Ugandan adventure begins when you arrive at Entebbe International Airport. Your private guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Depending on your arrival time, the rest of the day can be kept relaxed. You may choose to enjoy the hotel, take a walk around Entebbe or visit the botanical gardens if you arrive early enough. There is no need to rush — this first evening gives you time to settle in and meet your guide before the safari begins.

Over dinner, your guide will introduce you to the journey ahead, including the cultural experiences, wildlife areas and landscapes you will encounter during the coming days.

Kampala: History, Culture & Local Life

After breakfast, travel to Kampala for a guided exploration of Uganda’s capital. Today focuses on the people, traditions and history that make the country distinctive, offering a different perspective from the wildlife experiences ahead.

Visit the Kasubi Tombs, an important cultural site associated with the kings of Buganda, subject to site access and current visitor arrangements. Continue to the Uganda Museum, where exhibits introduce the country’s cultural heritage and traditional ways of life.

You will also have an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a local market, where traders sell fresh produce, clothing, household goods and everyday essentials. Your guide will help you understand the sights and sounds of the city while giving you time to interact respectfully with local life.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and sample Ugandan dishes such as matoke, groundnut sauce or freshly prepared fish, depending on availability. Return to your hotel for a relaxed evening.

Kampala to Lake Mburo, Into the Ugandan Countryside

Leave Kampala after breakfast and travel west towards Lake Mburo National Park.

The city gradually gives way to open countryside, rolling hills and the grasslands of Ankole. Along the way, you may see the famous long-horned Ankole cattle, an important part of local culture and livelihood in this region.

After arriving near Lake Mburo, enjoy lunch and some time to settle into your lodge. Later in the afternoon, take part in one of Uganda’s special wildlife experiences — a guided walking safari.

With an armed ranger leading the way, you can explore the landscape on foot and observe animals from a different perspective. Zebra, impala, giraffe and eland are among the wildlife you may encounter. Walking allows you to slow down, read animal tracks and notice the smaller details of the bush that are easy to miss from a vehicle.

Lake Mburo to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, continue north towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s best-known wildlife destinations. The journey takes you through rural communities and changing landscapes, with opportunities for wildlife viewing as you enter the park, depending on your route and timing.

You may stop near the Equator for photographs and a short break before continuing towards your lodge.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. From the water, you can often see hippos gathered in large groups, buffalo resting along the banks and elephants coming down to drink. The channel is also an excellent place to observe waterbirds, including pelicans, kingfishers, cormorants and other species.

Your guide will help identify the animals and explain how the channel supports the surrounding wildlife. After the cruise, return to your lodge to relax, enjoy dinner and prepare for the next day’s game drive.

Ishasha Sector — In Search of Tree-Climbing Lions

Begin the day with an early breakfast before heading into the Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This remote area is known for its tree-climbing lions, which are sometimes seen resting on the branches of large fig trees.

During your game drive, your guide will search the open plains, woodland and fig trees for lions and other wildlife. Sightings depend on animal movements and natural conditions, so finding lions in the trees cannot be guaranteed. You may also encounter elephants, buffalo, antelope and a variety of bird species.

The quieter surroundings and broad savannah landscapes make Ishasha a rewarding place to explore at a relaxed pace. Take time to enjoy the scenery and learn about the animals that inhabit this part of Uganda.

Return to your lodge for lunch and some free time. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the veranda, enjoying the natural surroundings or observing birds around the property.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge and reflect on your wildlife experiences before the journey back to Entebbe.

Return to Entebbe — Departure from Uganda

Enjoy your final breakfast in the Ugandan countryside before beginning the journey back to Entebbe.

Depending on your flight schedule, you can return by road, allowing time to appreciate more of Uganda’s rural landscapes along the way. A domestic charter or scheduled flight may also be possible from a suitable airstrip, subject to availability, operating arrangements, luggage limits and the location of your lodge.

Your transfer will be planned around your international departure time, with a suitable buffer for road conditions and airport check-in.

If you have a late departure, we can advise whether additional accommodation or an extension would be useful. You leave Uganda with a deeper appreciation of its cultural heritage, varied landscapes and remarkable wildlife.
