4 Days | Serengeti & Ndutu

Following the Newborns

Comfort tier:

Experience one of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles on a focused 4-day safari through the Serengeti and Ndutu. This journey is designed around the Great Migration calving season, when thousands of wildebeest gather on the short-grass plains and newborn calves take their first steps.

You will enjoy early morning game drives, time to follow the herds, and opportunities to see predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards moving around the calving grounds.

What makes this journey unforgettable

Your journey, day by day

1

Start in Arusha to Serengeti National Park

Depart Arusha in the morning, with the pick up at your hotel or Arusha airport and begin your journey towards the Serengeti. The drive takes you through changing landscapes as you leave the busy town behind and enter Tanzania’s famous wildlife country.

Once inside the Serengeti, your safari begins with game viewing along the way to camp. Keep an eye out for zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, elephants, and the first signs of the great herds.

Continue to your camp for dinner and a relaxing evening, ready for an early start the following morning.

2

Central Serengeti to Ndutu | Following the Migration

After breakfast, continue your journey from Central Serengeti towards the Ndutu area, following the movement of the Great Migration.

The landscape gradually changes as you approach the open calving plains. Along the way, enjoy game viewing and watch for large herds of wildebeest and zebra gathering in the area.

Ndutu is especially special during the calving season, when the plains become a nursery for thousands of newborn wildebeest. The abundance of young animals also attracts predators, creating exciting opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, and other hunters.

Arrive at your camp and settle in before enjoying dinner and a peaceful evening in the heart of the migration area.

Following the Newborns in Ndutu Calving Experience

Start before sunrise with an early morning game drive across the Ndutu plains. This is one of the best times to follow the wildebeest during the calving season and watch newborn calves taking their first steps.

Your guide will help you understand how the mothers protect their young and how newborn calves can stand and begin running within minutes of birth — a vital survival skill in an area where predators are always nearby.

Continue exploring the plains during the morning and early afternoon, looking for wildebeest, zebra, lions, cheetahs, and leopards. After the day’s wildlife experience, begin your journey towards the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Arrive at your camp on the crater rim in the evening, where you can relax and enjoy the cooler mountain air.

4

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha & Departure

Wake up early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for your final wildlife experience. The crater floor is home to a remarkable concentration of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, and, with luck, the endangered black rhino.

Enjoy a game drive through the crater before beginning your journey back to Arusha. We will plan the day’s timing around your flight schedule, with a direct transfer to the airport when appropriate, or drop-off at your hotel if you are staying in Arusha.

Your safari ends with unforgettable memories of the Serengeti, the Ndutu calving plains, and the wildlife that makes this part of Tanzania so extraordinary.
