About Ruaha National Park
Located in southern Tanzania, Ruaha National Park is the country’s largest national park, covering over 20,226 square kilometers of untouched wilderness. Known for its remote landscapes, dramatic scenery, and exceptional wildlife, Ruaha offers an authentic African safari experience away from the crowds.
The park is famous for its impressive elephant population, large prides of lions, and the life-giving Great Ruaha River, where hippos, crocodiles, and many animals gather throughout the year. Its vast savannahs, rocky hills, and ancient baobab trees create a spectacular setting for unforgettable game drives.
Ruaha is unique because it lies where East African and Southern African ecosystems meet, creating one of Tanzania’s richest areas for biodiversity. Central Tanzania, about 130 km west of Iringa. The park sits at the heart of a massive ecosystem spanning over 45,000 km².
Best Time to Visit
June–March when animals concentrate along the Great Ruaha River. October is peak — dramatic dry-season wildlife density.
How to Reach
Charter flights from Dar es Salaam (1.5 hours) or Arusha to Msembe airstrip. Overland from Iringa (2–3 hours on unpaved road).
