About Tarangire National Park
Located in northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park is one of the best safari destinations on the Tanzania Northern Safari Circuit. The park is famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, open savannah, and the Tarangire River, which becomes an important source of water for wildlife during the dry season.
A Tarangire safari offers excellent opportunities to see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, leopards, and many other wildlife species. The park is also an outstanding destination for birdwatching, with more than 500 recorded bird species.
With its dramatic baobab landscapes and rich wildlife, Tarangire is an ideal addition to a Tanzania safari, especially for travelers exploring Arusha, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti.
Location
Located about 120 km southwest of Arusha, near Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Best Time to Visit
June to October (dry season) when animals concentrate along the river. The wet season (Oct–March) offers excellent birding and lush green landscapes.
How to Reach
A 2-hour drive from Arusha via the paved Arusha–Dodoma highway. Charter flights available from Arusha to Tarangire airstrip.
